Development Version

The development version of the OpenSourceICDL courseware aims to be a release version. The development version can only become an OSICDL release version. The development version is licensed under the CC-Attribution- license.

Release Version

A release version of the OpenSOurceICDL courseware is a copy of the development version that has been reviewed by OSI experts and deemed to be of a quality suitable for use in training students aiming for OSICDL certification. The release version is licensed under Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 and is published with the trademark logo of the OSICDL.org, The release version is the property of the OSICDL who have extended permission for anyone to freely reproduce and use the release version for commercial gain under the terms of the license.

OSICDL Module 1

Concepts of Information Technology

Overview: A fundamental introduction to the terminology, concepts and definitions of computing and networking technologies and their application in everyday life.

Outcome: Students will have a general understanding of the terms and concepts of computing and information technology. The student will be aware of how computers and information technologies are used in everyday life and be aware of the health, safety, security and legal issues related to computing and information technologies.

 

OSICDL Module 2

Using a Computer and Managing Files with Ubuntu Environment

Overview: An introduction to using the Ubuntu Environment as a computing environment. Students are the taught fundamental operations and tasks that computer users need in order to be productive in using a computer.

Outcome: Students will be familiar with the use of the Ubuntu Environment and competent in performing tasks such as working with files, folders and peripheral devices. Basic operations such as starting programs, maximizing, minimizing, closing windows are taught and can be easily transferred to other desktop computing environments.

 

OSICDL Module 3

Word Processing using OpenOffice.org Writer

Overview: A comprehensive course that takes students from the concepts of word processing to the point where they are competent in use of the OpenOffice.org Writer word processing program.

Outcome: Students will be able to perform the basic and advanced techniques needed in order to create and design attractive documents. The fundamental concepts of word processing are easily transferable between other Word Processing programs.

 

OSICDL Module 4

Spreadsheets using OpenOffice.org Calc

Overview: A comprehensive course that takes students from the concepts of computer spreadsheets and their uses, to the point where they are competent in use of the OpenOffice.org Calc spreadsheet program.

Outcome: The student will understand the fundamental concepts and terminology of spreadsheet programs and be able to use a spreadsheet program to solve most basic and many complex mathematical problems using the feature and function set of the program. The fundamental concepts of spreadsheets are easily transferable between other spreadsheet programs.

 

OSICDL Module 5

Databases using OpenOffice DB

Overview: A comprehensive course that takes students from the concepts of computer DB and their uses, to the point where they are competent in use of the OpenOffice.org Base program.

Outcome: The student will understand the fundamental concepts od Database, you will create and modify new databases and their various objects.

 

OSICDL Module 6

Presentations using OpenOffice.org Impress

Overview: Students are introduced to the concepts and techniques of presentation design and development.

Outcome: Students will understand the concepts of presentation design and be able to use a wide array of tools to employ the use of basic and advanced features in their presentation creations. The basic concepts and skills learnt in this module are easily transferred to other presentation tools.

 

OSICDL Module 7

Information and Communication using Mozilla and Ximian Evolution

Overview: Students are introduced to the exciting concepts and services of the Internet and world wide web and how they are used to get information and communicate with other computer users.

Outcome: Students will be able to search and surf the world wide web for information using a Web Browser and communicate with other computer users using electronic mail. The basic skills learnt in this module are easily transferred other Web Browser or electronic mail client programs.
