How can I become accredited center ?
Centers wishing to become accredited for testing or training of OSICDL should satisfy a list of requirements and apply officially by send request to one of our regions managers.
Requirements:
1- Dedicated Internet Connection? Does your school / institution have a dedicated, non-dial-up Internet connection of at least 512KB?
2- Classroom Computer Setup? At least 1 classroom set up with less-than-three-year-old PCs with a student-to-computer ratio less than 1:1?
3- Proper Classroom Space? At least 50 square meters of non-dedicated classroom?
4- Must all instructors pass the seven modules with score 75% minimum?
A. General Requirements
There is a set of requirements which must be complied with at the center applying to offer OSICDL testing. These requirements are divided in 3 different categories: manpower, facilities, and testing environment. They encompass a number of minimum prerequisites to be fulfilled in the center such as the hardware used and open source software installed, the Internet and Intranet connectivity, and the availability of Un-interrupted Power Supply (UPS-Optional) for each computer.
B. Testers Qualifications Centres must have at least two testers and a test centre manager for the operation of the OSICDL Programme. The requirements for becoming a tester are:
While the Test Centre Manager should also be ideally a holder of the OSICDL, or has at least successfully completed some of its modules, he/she, at the minimum, must be fully familiar with the intricate details pertaining to the OSICDL operation, quality assurance and internal verification system, and appeals procedure. This is facilitated through his/her effective participation in the 1-2 day workshop mentioned above. 1. The Open Source International Computer Driving Licence Certifcate. 2. University Degree in a related field. 3. At least two years experience in the IT field. 4. Completion of a training workshop on the OSICDL Programme, organized by the OSICDL or its regional partners, following the successful accreditation of the Center. 5. Full Time employment at the Center. 6. Professional work ethics coupled with promptness, reliability, and adherence to rules and regulations.
7. Previous experience in the administration and/or supervision of standardized aptitude and/or professional tests is a plus. C. Approved Testing Vehicles/Modes Testing must be carried out using a testing mechanism approved by the Organization. There are currently two testing vehicles maintained by the OSICDL.org, based on the current OSICDL syllabus, Version 5.0:
a. Online Testing (OTS) Online Testing mode has enormous benefits to the OSICDL operation in general and to test centres in particular. Testing candidates utilizing the Online Testing System (OTS) guarantees a number of advantages for being cost and time effective as it reduces the time needed for the preparation of tests and eliminates the time for grading of candidates answers. OTS guarantees immediate results after the usual 45-minute OSICDL test and has the ability to generate impressive array of reports which prove to be useful to every center. Requirements for the Accreditation as an OSICDL Test Center 1. Available Manpower Test center manager fully familiar with OSICDL programme and ideally OSICDL certified. At laest.
2 Testers adequately qualified and OSICDL certified as mentioned above. Sufficient manpower to undertake other administrative/technical responsibilities of the programme. 2. Available Facilities
2.1 Documentations and General-Purpose Facilities Equal Opportunities Policies available and posted. Appeals Procedures available and posted. Clearly displayed sign/directions for the center. Help Desk supported by adequate personal and resources.
Sufficient telephone lines and adequate communications services (including reliable e-mail address for the center). Bulletin board for exam times/ announcements, etc. Adequate storage space for OSICDL candidates personal items. Adequate financial-transaction mechanism/system. Locked and secured facility.
2.2 Hardware Minimum number 10 PCs commensurate with OSICDL application and business plan (Min. Configuration: Pentium 4, Processor 3GHZ, 1GB RAM). Sufficient number of printers (at least one printer per laboratory) readily accessible by each PC. Printouts from each PC are readily distinguishable (e.g. Via a water-mark, Header, Footer etc.) PCs supported by a UPS system (Optional). Passing the OSICDL Benchmark Test Requirements.
2.3 Software Adequate and functional operating system (minimum: Linux OS) Adequate and functional Applications (minimum Open Office). Applications registered, fully installed with all objects properly functioning (Help, Spell check, wizards, organization charts, etc.) and upon request.
2.4 Internet/Intranet Adequate and fully operational local area networks within laboratories. Adequate and reliable internet service connected to every PC. ADSL: 2 MBPS for Downloading and 512 MBPS for Uploading.
3. Testing Environment The Test room should be in Lines Maximum 2 PCs in the line and with 1 Meter between them at least. Quiet environment.
